After nearly a month with no patch ticks i managed today to get this WOOD SANDPIPER,sorry about the small image but it was a wood sandpiper.PATCH LIFE 133.

Wanstead Flats

Canons Farm/Banstead Woods: Honey Buzzard circled then gained height & slowly drifted SE over border with Banstead Woods 10.20am-10.25am. Osprey flew SW over Banstead Woods then Canons Farm 3.34pm-3.38pm (DC) & 1st-winter male Common Redstart still along Slangs (gravel track running from Reads Rest Lane near Lunch Wood, to railway).Wanstead Flats: 8.30 - 9.15 Wryneck in scrub in SSSI just south of Lake House Rd (Tony Brown), still showed briefly at 11:20 frequenting Hawthorn between path near Lime trees and Lake House Road, this is on the west side north-east of Jubilee Pond and not near the Centre road side on a grid ref of approx (TQ403866). Also here 1 juv Pied Flycatcher, 1m & 1f Common Redstart , Whinchat , Spotted Flycatcher, also noted several hirundines heading SW, mostly House Martins, Long wood: at least 2 Spotted Flycatchers, 11 Mistle Thrush, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Lesser Whitethroat. 20 Greylag (Alexandra lake) and 2 Egyptian Geese (Model Yacht Lake).Staines Moor: 10.00-11.30 3 Common Redstart, 2 Whinchat, 2 Northern Wheatear, Hobby, Common Whitethroat, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk.Bentley Priory: 1f Common Redstart, 1 Spotted Flycatcher.Brent Reservoir: 3 Arctic Terns to 08.30 only, Crossbill over.

Today i was meant to take richard around walthamstow but as we were in the hide at east warwick res the news broke that there was a WRYNECK at wanstead flats so off will went.After waiting hours the bird showed well at 2.18  by this time richard had left.Also in the same bush was a common redstart and a garden warbler.

Things are slowly getting better at the patch with a calling TURNSTONE which done a small loop around the southern end of lockwood before flying off south and the same with the GREENSHANK.No sign of the crayford black kite after spending all day looking for it.

Alexandra Park: Wood Warbler on southern edge of Top Field late am (this isolated former playing field is situated at the most northerly part of the Park, below the boating lake. The nearest car park, adjacent to Alexandra Palace and the boating lake, is probably closed, so best park in The Avenue or Alexandra Park Road). Also Treecreeper and Garden Warbler here.Staines Reservoirs: 12 Black Terns on S basin late am.Richmond Park: 2 Whinchat (1 riding ring, 1 "hawthorn valley").Woodside Park: a Crossbill flew over calling at 11:45.

More movement at the patch today with a CROSSBILL flying south over lockwood res. It was also calling as was a REDSHANK  over the res. Later on in the day i also had a hunting HOBBY at the northern end of lockwood.
